Autumn Calabrese's 21 Day Fix - Essential Package

Very Quick

"I don t have that many video classes to compare it to, but for example, on Shaun T s Insanity class, people take spontaneous breaks for being totally exhausted, no one smiles like a dummy and you see them having a real hard time."

"One way to quickly measure and prepare for a day/week without constantly washing the containers is to put a plastic sandwich bag inside the container, fill with your portioned food, and store in the bag."

"I own several other BB workout programs: PiYo (my FAVORITE), T25 (I like it but haven't made it past Alpha level), Slim in 6 series (also really like this series, though it's repetitive), and TurboFire which was NOT the right fit for me (I am not coordinated enough to keep up with the moves required in that program)."

"Food: If you are like me, you have been on millions of diets only to fall off around day 4 (that's a stretch) and put the weight back on."

"At 49, I have always had to watch my weight and knew had to do so until the last few years, when I got sidetracked with rebuilding my house after Sandy (not cooking, eating junk on the run, not time or energy for workouts), reduced metabolism and becoming a victim of diet plan overload."

"However, it worked for me so that has a lot to do with it:-) What I mean is - the nutrition plan, portion control, and exercises were totally doable for me - but when telling a friend about the nutrition plan she said if she had to pay that much attention to her portions etc she'd be a total mess and just super anxious all of the time - so I definitely think it has a lot to do with your personality."

"Keep that in mind, because if you're really out of shape it can be intimidating at first: I'm strong and determined, but have no history of physical activity in my life, other than gym class in school ten years ago, rowing occasionally at the gym in years past and doing a set of bicep curls once a year, so I was starting from scratch - although I didn't know it."

"However, then I did a second round of this program, and I could only lose 2 pounds for 3 weeks (first round I had to span for a bit longer, as it was extremely hard to do at the beginning, second round I completed in 3 weeks... I make sure I work hard and sweat through but my body got so adjusted, The 21 day fix workouts apparently go ineffective after about 2 rounds... I don t have that many video classes to compare it to, but for example, on Shaun T s Insanity class, people take spontaneous breaks for being totally exhausted, no one smiles like a dummy and you see them having a real hard time."

"I am a "normal" person (not affiliated with Beachbody other than owning a lot of their programs) and have just completed the first week the 21 Day Fix... One way to quickly measure and prepare for a day/week without constantly washing the containers is to put a plastic sandwich bag inside the container, fill with your portioned food, and store in the bag... The little Eating Plan booklet is helpful for getting started with a food list, calculation instructions for your daily portions, some recipes, and a few sample meals."

"About the purchase experience: I had originally planned to purchase this system through my BB coach so she could get credit for it, but due to a glitch on the website I mistakenly added two of these systems to that website's cart and couldn't remove either, so I ended up closing out that browser and coming here to Amazon where the purchase price was the same (less, actually, since I didn't pay for shipping)... As far as the workouts are concerned, they are not DIFFICULT but I felt each and every one later on the day I did them (especially the first one in the series - I hurt for 3 days after that one the first week)... I own several other BB workout programs: PiYo (my FAVORITE), T25 (I like it but haven't made it past Alpha level), Slim in 6 series (also really like this series, though it's repetitive), and TurboFire which was NOT the right fit for me (I am not coordinated enough to keep up with the moves required in that program)."

"It amazes me that people are not willing to try something; as soon as they see the size of a container and send it back without trying... Food: If you are like me, you have been on millions of diets only to fall off around day 4 (that's a stretch) and put the weight back on... Anyway, I decided that I will take one full (and I mean full) day every two weeks to prepare my food."

"However, muscles adapt quickly, so while these are great workouts to integrate, I think in time you also need to add other type of strength and cardio workouts to keep seeing results... At 49, I have always had to watch my weight and knew had to do so until the last few years, when I got sidetracked with rebuilding my house after Sandy (not cooking, eating junk on the run, not time or energy for workouts), reduced metabolism and becoming a victim of diet plan overload... Overall though I got used to the plan pretty quickly and not that I suggest this, but I'm not even writing everything down now becuase I know how much of what I get and am mentially following it..."

"However, it worked for me so that has a lot to do with it:-) What I mean is - the nutrition plan, portion control, and exercises were totally doable for me - but when telling a friend about the nutrition plan she said if she had to pay that much attention to her portions etc she'd be a total mess and just super anxious all of the time - so I definitely think it has a lot to do with your personality... I can tell you that after 21 days I felt stronger, leaner, healthier, and more ready than ever to continue following a healthy eating lifestyle - because that's what the 21 day fix really is - it's a way of eating, a healthy eating lifestyle - not a diet... If you are thinking about buying this or have already purchased it - make sure you run some searches on Facebook for 21 Day Fix groups - there are great groups for motivation/support, and recipe ideas!"

"Keep that in mind, because if you're really out of shape it can be intimidating at first: I'm strong and determined, but have no history of physical activity in my life, other than gym class in school ten years ago, rowing occasionally at the gym in years past and doing a set of bicep curls once a year, so I was starting from scratch - although I didn't know it... Odds are you're not going to get to your absolute end goal (unless you're only trying to lose a few lbs) after the first round, but this program FIXED my fear of exercising and FIXED my lazy, sedentary, junk-food-filled lifestyle... It's pretty easy to eyeball it, or just measure each container (they're all simple divisions of 1 cup), buy some locking rubbermaid containers - they all have measurements on the bottom - and use those to prep & bring your food with you."

"However, then I did a second round of this program, and I could only lose 2 pounds for 3 weeks (first round I had to span for a bit longer, as it was extremely hard to do at the beginning, second round I completed in 3 weeks. ) I have to say I struggled a lot more this time to lose just 2 pounds, and I increased weights to lift from 3 pounds to 7 pounds in each hand in order to stay busy on these exercises... I make sure I work hard and sweat through but my body got so adjusted, The 21 day fix workouts apparently go ineffective after about 2 rounds... I wish there was an extra full length class with Autumn to substitute if you no longer need a recovery but I found out in the extended ++ package, the extra class is actually PiYo, which I am trying to substitute... Then they exhale with a loud demo fuuuu on Pilates class (Autumn makes it clear enough when to exhale, but this just shows they are also instructors, not followers)... I don t have that many video classes to compare it to, but for example, on Shaun T s Insanity class, people take spontaneous breaks for being totally exhausted, no one smiles like a dummy and you see them having a real hard time... I am still overall satisfied with my purchase, I may recommend it to someone and it definitely does more to your body, than, say, running in the park."

"I am a "normal" person (not affiliated with Beachbody other than owning a lot of their programs) and have just completed the first week the 21 Day Fix... Here are my thoughts on each component of the Essential Package: Containers: I am a sucker for color coding, so I was especially excited about the portion control containers... One way to quickly measure and prepare for a day/week without constantly washing the containers is to put a plastic sandwich bag inside the container, fill with your portioned food, and store in the bag... I think it just feels easier and less complicated to choose an item from the food list (most of which I was already eating regularly) and mark off a serving versus looking up the calories for each item I am eating during the day... The little Eating Plan booklet is helpful for getting started with a food list, calculation instructions for your daily portions, some recipes, and a few sample meals... My energy level has increased so much over the past week, that I would stick with this program even if I didn't see a change on the scale... However, if you are willing to follow the nutrition guidelines and do the workouts, I think you will see some positive results."

BUT I will say that I followed the meal planning portion faithfully for a week and though the containers look ridiculously small, by following the guidelines for the amount I should consume for my size I never went hungry. I already eat a fairly clean diet of mostly whole foods and meals made from scratch (few processed foods), and with a family member with food allergies I was already used to preparing three meals a day most days a week. For me, at least, the food prep part of this program was not difficult, but if you do not normally prepare food from scratch at home this might require more of your time than you're used to... As far as the workouts are concerned, they are not DIFFICULT but I felt each and every one later on the day I did them (especially the first one in the series - I hurt for 3 days after that one the first week)... I own several other BB workout programs: PiYo (my FAVORITE), T25 (I like it but haven't made it past Alpha level), Slim in 6 series (also really like this series, though it's repetitive), and TurboFire which was NOT the right fit for me (I am not coordinated enough to keep up with the moves required in that program)... I have seen other reviewers complaining about this, but I never found the pre-workout commercials to be more than 15 seconds long, and to avoid watching the others I turn the DVD off when I'm done exercising."

"It amazes me that people are not willing to try something; as soon as they see the size of a container and send it back without trying... Once I gave it a chance, I realized there is more food to eat than I originally thought... Food: If you are like me, you have been on millions of diets only to fall off around day 4 (that's a stretch) and put the weight back on... Anyway, I decided that I will take one full (and I mean full) day every two weeks to prepare my food... I then cook and measure my food, place them in individual portion freezer bags and place those in a large freezer bag marked with what it is and what container it is for... You begin feeling so good about your accomplishment with eating that you just keep going... I no longer want to be skinny to fit in certain clothes, I want to do it so others can see me as an example, and because I want to hold those planks for 1 minute!!!"

"I did not want to start if "full on", as I had company visiting during the week and knew it would be too hard to completely stick to it... However, muscles adapt quickly, so while these are great workouts to integrate, I think in time you also need to add other type of strength and cardio workouts to keep seeing results... I often take another reviewers tip and put baggies in them to use for measuring instead of use, but sometimes just more convenient to pack it and take it. My disc 2 isn't working so havent tried all the workouts yet, but so far so good for at home days, but I still like to mix in the gym... At 49, I have always had to watch my weight and knew had to do so until the last few years, when I got sidetracked with rebuilding my house after Sandy (not cooking, eating junk on the run, not time or energy for workouts), reduced metabolism and becoming a victim of diet plan overload... (And I'm vegetarian, so that adds another level of complexity This one allows some carbs plus fruit, so no dizziness, and teaches you how much is ok... Overall though I got used to the plan pretty quickly and not that I suggest this, but I'm not even writing everything down now becuase I know how much of what I get and am mentially following it..."

"However, it worked for me so that has a lot to do with it:-) What I mean is - the nutrition plan, portion control, and exercises were totally doable for me - but when telling a friend about the nutrition plan she said if she had to pay that much attention to her portions etc she'd be a total mess and just super anxious all of the time - so I definitely think it has a lot to do with your personality. That being said, if you feel you can follow a plan, plan out your food ahead of time, eat every 2-3 hours, and comfortably eat from all of the food groups then this program might just be for you... I actually did not weigh or measure myself before I started because I'm much more motivated by non-scale victories (how I feel, how my clothes feel, etc) versus what a number on the scale tells me. I can tell you that after 21 days I felt stronger, leaner, healthier, and more ready than ever to continue following a healthy eating lifestyle - because that's what the 21 day fix really is - it's a way of eating, a healthy eating lifestyle - not a diet... ] The format is 60 seconds of work with 15-20 seconds of rest between each - by the time you start to feel like you really can't do an exercise anymore, that exercise is done and you're on to the next... as I said though, I don't really see this as something I have to do - something I'm dreading - or something I'm just trying to get through - I really just see this as a new way to live - eating healthy and exercising.

I couldn't move a muscle after the first day - and every muscle in my body was screaming-sore (that's a technical term) for the entire first week... After week three, I was so obsessed with my progress, how awesome I felt, and what I more I could do, I just had to continue... Odds are you're not going to get to your absolute end goal (unless you're only trying to lose a few lbs) after the first round, but this program FIXED my fear of exercising and FIXED my lazy, sedentary, junk-food-filled lifestyle... There's only a 15-30 second commercial before every workout that you can skip over, then when the workout is over just turn the DVD off... It's pretty easy to eyeball it, or just measure each container (they're all simple divisions of 1 cup), buy some locking rubbermaid containers - they all have measurements on the bottom - and use those to prep & bring your food with you. I've now moved on to T25 to mix it up and take my results even further, but I'm sticking to the eating system here because it really is the easiest way to get your macros right."
