"Six months after I bought the High Sierra Loop Backpack, one of the shoulder straps started ripping apart at the seam, and the zipper to the front pocket had broken off (the backpack was gently used).""Our son is not the superstar student and does not go out of his way to bring home textbooks and other school things that he wouldn't need at home, so if you have a student that does require lots of notebooks and textbooks to be brought home on a daily basis, I would recommend looking at other book bags that can accommodate the needs of your student."
"The pockets are deep, as in they are more open towards the bottom, but the way the smaller sipper pockets are designed there is not the same room at the top as there is at the bottom."
"I bought this because I frequently go over to other people's houses and needed something to carry my laptop and other stuff so I wouldn't have to do use plastic bags anymore."
"One thing I don't like is that while riding my bike, I can't reach to get the bottle out of the pouch, I have to stop and take off the bag."
"We were able to fit into this backpack: - 2 rain ponchos - 2 one Liter water bottles - 2 jackets of medium thickness (size M and XS) - 2 sweaters - 2 Bear-Naked sized bags of trail mix - 6 Protein Bars - 2 phones, 2 sets of keys, 2 wallets, 2 sunglasses and their cases, 2 earphones - Magnesium Fire Starter and 2 Mylar blankets (just in case) In short, this is a terrific backpack for couples doing day hikes, and walking around in the town at night while still trying to maintain a sense of fashion sensibilities."
"but is far too tight to be usable and only zips down less than halfway - even with the rest of the pack totally empty, you have to just shove your hand into the pocket and root around for stuff."

"Six months after I bought the High Sierra Loop Backpack, one of the shoulder straps started ripping apart at the seam, and the zipper to the front pocket had broken off (the backpack was gently used)... The largest of the compartments (located in front of the backpack) has lots of pockets for putting your calculator, cell phone, stationery, etc... If you're hiking for long periods, you *need* to have a sternum strap for keeping the shoulder straps in a position on your shoulders most comfortable to you, and you *need* a waist strap to distribute some of the load from your shoulders to your waist.""On a typical school day, our son brings home an assignment notebook, his homework / school work folder, usually 1-2 school books (standard sized, hard-covered books), and then usually by the time that he gets home, he has other things stuffed in there (such as his winter hat, a hoodie, gloves, pencils, school papers, etc)... However, I would recommend purchasing this book bag for children who are maybe slightly younger and do not have as much homework that they bring home, especially when it comes to textbooks... Our son is not the superstar student and does not go out of his way to bring home textbooks and other school things that he wouldn't need at home, so if you have a student that does require lots of notebooks and textbooks to be brought home on a daily basis, I would recommend looking at other book bags that can accommodate the needs of your student."
"The pockets are deep, as in they are more open towards the bottom, but the way the smaller sipper pockets are designed there is not the same room at the top as there is at the bottom... All in all it had been comfortable, love the straps, and holds just about everything I need it too... Not comfortable, doesn't fit what it should, and is smaller than this bag, even with a designated laptop sleeve."
"I bought this because I frequently go over to other people's houses and needed something to carry my laptop and other stuff so I wouldn't have to do use plastic bags anymore... It took me a moment to get them set up properly for how I like to wear my backpacks but after that it was quite comfortable... If you're a college student with a bunch of books or you're in high school and have a lot of books you may need something a little bigger."
"The "monster hook" looks a bit flimsy, even though I'm sure it could hold about 20 pounds of weight, I wouldn't trust it, unless its my hat or something. The side net pouches are nice, especially for large bottles or a medium size umbrella - as the side brace straps would help keep it in place. One thing I don't like is that while riding my bike, I can't reach to get the bottle out of the pouch, I have to stop and take off the bag."
"There are 2 small lateral zipper compartments, located along the topside of the backpack, that fit wallets/cell phones/keys perfectly. You can also fit an IPhone5 into the front shoulder mesh pouch, for even easier access, and tuck your earphones into the opposite strap that has a little loop... We were able to fit into this backpack: - 2 rain ponchos - 2 one Liter water bottles - 2 jackets of medium thickness (size M and XS) - 2 sweaters - 2 Bear-Naked sized bags of trail mix - 6 Protein Bars - 2 phones, 2 sets of keys, 2 wallets, 2 sunglasses and their cases, 2 earphones - Magnesium Fire Starter and 2 Mylar blankets (just in case) In short, this is a terrific backpack for couples doing day hikes, and walking around in the town at night while still trying to maintain a sense of fashion sensibilities."
"I carried a laptop bag for years but with a new smaller laptop I wanted to switch over to a backpack... but is far too tight to be usable and only zips down less than halfway - even with the rest of the pack totally empty, you have to just shove your hand into the pocket and root around for stuff. I do really like the sunglasses pocket and think the straps are pretty well designed but too long (they dangle down weirdly when you wear it)."

"Six months after I bought the High Sierra Loop Backpack, one of the shoulder straps started ripping apart at the seam, and the zipper to the front pocket had broken off (the backpack was gently used)... If you're looking for something more durable, you might want to spend a little more to get a JanSport or a The North Face backpack (both of which are renowned for their quality and durability)... I use one of the pockets for a camera tripod and the other for a water bottle when I'm out shooting... The largest of the compartments (located in front of the backpack) has lots of pockets for putting your calculator, cell phone, stationery, etc... I did modify the backpack by cutting a small hole in the pocket of the topmost compartment so I can thread a hydration tube through the hole, and then through the opening (meant originally for the wire of a pair of headphones/earphones)... I wanted a backpack with plenty of room to carry the essentials but not one that is over-sized and clumsy... If you're hiking for long periods, you *need* to have a sternum strap for keeping the shoulder straps in a position on your shoulders most comfortable to you, and you *need* a waist strap to distribute some of the load from your shoulders to your waist.""This book bag was purchased for a sixth grade boy who seemingly has an increased workload of homework from school, so I knew that he needed something that would be able to endure the rough & tough nature of boys and still hold up to all of the homework demands... 5 years and in comparison to this High Sierra book bag, it might have been better that we stuck with the same brand that we had used previously. Although there are lots of zippers and compartments for things, my initial thought upon receiving this book bag was, "Wow, this is a little small... On a typical school day, our son brings home an assignment notebook, his homework / school work folder, usually 1-2 school books (standard sized, hard-covered books), and then usually by the time that he gets home, he has other things stuffed in there (such as his winter hat, a hoodie, gloves, pencils, school papers, etc)... Thinking that I was "smarter than a sixth grader," I decided to switch around where he was placing the books vs the assignment notebooks and to my dismay, the folder and assignment notebook were too tall and interfered with the zipper, thus he would have been unable to zip up that section of the book bag...
"There is not padding because it is not meant to have a computer in it, I have bought a cheap, thin sleeve for my computer and it still works well. I like the zippers, they are easy to close and I have packed mine pretty full and it hasn't given yet!... The pockets are deep, as in they are more open towards the bottom, but the way the smaller sipper pockets are designed there is not the same room at the top as there is at the bottom. For me it is just a little too small another inch or so would be great but still a great bag... This is also considered the "tablet pocket" so it would be clothes or laptop, most likely not both...
I especially like the one at the top which has a slot for MP3 player headphone cables... It took me a moment to get them set up properly for how I like to wear my backpacks but after that it was quite comfortable... I've been using it for a few months now and I have seen very little wear and tear so far... it's not too small by any means but I thought it would be bigger... If you're carrying a laptop + some accessories, or some food, or even books then you'll probably get enjoyment out of this. If you're a college student with a bunch of books or you're in high school and have a lot of books you may need something a little bigger."
"It can hold large/wide books, especially that huge sheet music paper and large folders. Its comfortable to wear, the shoulder straps are nicely padded, and are very comfortable, just like the description says... The bracing straps on sides and bottom are nice - if the bag rips (especially while camping), they will keep the bag together... As I was getting off a bus from the back door one time, the bottom brace strap was caught on the door handle, and I had to go up the steps to get it off - just my luck I guess. The "monster hook" looks a bit flimsy, even though I'm sure it could hold about 20 pounds of weight, I wouldn't trust it, unless its my hat or something. The side net pouches are nice, especially for large bottles or a medium size umbrella - as the side brace straps would help keep it in place. One thing I don't like is that while riding my bike, I can't reach to get the bottle out of the pouch, I have to stop and take off the bag."
"Not only that, it's stylish enough where you could just keep a couple items in it and walk around the city during the daytime (heard strangers commenting "that's a cool backpack")... There are 2 small lateral zipper compartments, located along the topside of the backpack, that fit wallets/cell phones/keys perfectly. You can also fit an IPhone5 into the front shoulder mesh pouch, for even easier access, and tuck your earphones into the opposite strap that has a little loop. The bulk of the backpack is separated into 3 compartments, and the "outside" 2 compartments have individually sewn compartments located within, to help keep things organized... We were able to fit into this backpack: - 2 rain ponchos - 2 one Liter water bottles - 2 jackets of medium thickness (size M and XS) - 2 sweaters - 2 Bear-Naked sized bags of trail mix - 6 Protein Bars - 2 phones, 2 sets of keys, 2 wallets, 2 sunglasses and their cases, 2 earphones - Magnesium Fire Starter and 2 Mylar blankets (just in case) In short, this is a terrific backpack for couples doing day hikes, and walking around in the town at night while still trying to maintain a sense of fashion sensibilities. Thanks to the padded backside and straps, and the design of the strap juncture and width, it was still comfortable to wear this backpack during the hikes (as comfortable as lugging around a backpack can be)... There are few other products I can think of at this price point, that offers this much in terms of durability, functionality, multipurpose use, convenience, and looks all into one."
"I work from home a couple of days a week and commute into NYC the rest of the time so the backpack has seen moderate "commuting professional" usage. I carried a laptop bag for years but with a new smaller laptop I wanted to switch over to a backpack. After a few weeks of use the fabric tags on the zippers started fraying badly and I ended cutting off several entirely... The outermost pocket is clearly for managing pencils, phones, etc. but is far too tight to be usable and only zips down less than halfway - even with the rest of the pack totally empty, you have to just shove your hand into the pocket and root around for stuff. I do really like the sunglasses pocket and think the straps are pretty well designed but too long (they dangle down weirdly when you wear it). I would not recommend this backpack to anyone."
