"I had also experienced probably the worst thing that can happen to you after a knee replacement(wont go into details, but think someone put an IED into my leg). Because of that and the fact that although my unit is on the first floor, I need to walk up ten steps, so needless to say I can't take out my garbage. My daughter comes a couple times a week to empty garbage but it takes longer than even two weeks to fill if you shake contents down. She wasn't able to get over when it was full so I went back to the plastic bags... When the receptical is full, you just pull the bag out of the cartridge enough to cut it and tie it off. Then you just pull the plastic material out of the cartridge and tie it off the you are ready to go."

They CONTAIN the smell really well, I have mine in my bedroom closet and of course their litter box (I live with my Mom for now (she has dementia) and so I'm limited in space... As in they do not break, I've tried crappy grocery bags when I've run out and those are the worst... You don't have to dump literal crap into your garbage bag or garbage pail or dumpster like every day. "That being said, the last order I placed was for a four pack of them and I can only use two. The first two were fine but the second two were loaded in such a way that they were unusable. The open ends of the string of bag was nowhere near the starting point but, rather, somewhere near the middle in one case and near the end in another... There is no way to use them once they are all pulled out of the container like this. Because of Amazon's 30 day return policy - which I have absolutely no problem with, by they way - I can't return them or exchange them for a replacement. BTW, I have a 16-year old cat who uses the litter box more than 3 cats together, so my method is probably the cheapest way. I scoop the litter box every night before bedtime and/or whenever I use that bathroom, and the cat is extremely HAPPY. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY unless it is because of some other reason than what I have explained. It is VERY difficult to change these Genie refill canisters AND you waste a lot of the bags trying to figure out how long it should be inside the DISPOSAL unit."

It can be a bit hard to pull off the plastic tab that keeps the bag/tube in place, but I've always been able to get it open after a few seconds. I've been getting these refills for three years, and in all that time, I've had one defective refill--the bag was apparently stuffed into its container the wrong way around, because I had to pull out the entire tube in order to get to the end. It was a shame to waste all that plastic, but at least the refills are inexpensive enough that it wasn't a huge loss. (I'm keeping the review at 5 stars because, in general, the product is awesome, and I consider that one defect to have been a fluke... ) Bottom line: If you have a Litter Genie (and, if you have an indoor cat and use clumping litter, I'd highly recommend it!"
