Litter Genie Plus Pail, Ultimate Cat Litter Disposal System, Locks Away Odors, Includes One Refill, Silver

Very Quick

"This is cheap plastic, with an infuriating little spring trap door thing that you have to pull out while contemplating the life choices that led you to this point: cursing a blue streak while scooping animal waste into a glorified overly complicated trash can, taking forever as a trio of cats pace nearby waiting to hop in and ruin all your hard work."

"Then when it's full (which for my two indoor/outdoor 10 month old kittens takes about 10 days) you open the bottom section, slice it with the built in cutter (which actually works way better than I was expecting), tie off the bag to toss it into the garbage, and pull out and tie off another fresh length of bag."

"If your not familiar withe litter genie, is in basic terms a trash can lined with a plastic bag to scoop used litter/ waste into and store it until it is full, then throw the bag away."

"When you first pull the bag through and tie it off (the knot where you tie it becomes the bottom of the bag (this will make sense to you when you are doing it, I promise)), and after you close up the Litter Genie (so it's ready to go), *open the top*, pull out the trap door (this will make sense to you also when you are doing it), and *manually open up (expand) the bag so that it's wide open*!!!"

"I scoop out the litter boxes 3-4 times a day and now it is so easy, I don t mind doing it whereas before, I was using a doggie bag and then putting it into a garbage bin in the garage, that was a lot of work!"

"Only producing enough trash to have to toss the garbage out every two-ish weeks worked splendidly until I adopted a cat and very quickly realized that unless I could do something something to fully mask the odor of her scooped litter in my trashcan, I would have to take daily trips to the outdoor garbage."

"That's handy to keep the tube cinched shut at the top to keep odors down in between scoops, but it also means that you have to periodically pull it (a two handed operation, while you've probably got a scooper in one hand), and it also means that after starting a new bag once the cavity of the litter genie fills, you must awkwardly try to pull out on this cover while attempting to push down into the genie to get the bottom of the bag to expand into the cavity."

"It fills up fast, and you can't quite tell when it has until it's too late (see above) at which point you have to bail out the top of the pail in order to get the bag pulled down to the cutter without causing a horrible mess... The bags split open if you're trying to push down the litter, they split open as you're pulling it down to the cutter, they split open when you're lifting it out, they'll split open if you somehow miraculously get them out your door intact on the way to the trash can... This is cheap plastic, with an infuriating little spring trap door thing that you have to pull out while contemplating the life choices that led you to this point: cursing a blue streak while scooping animal waste into a glorified overly complicated trash can, taking forever as a trio of cats pace nearby waiting to hop in and ruin all your hard work."

"Before when I cleaned the litter box for my two cats I would always use small dog poo bags like the ones that you would use when walking a dog and while they worked, it was kind of a pain and I was going through too many of them scooping 2-3 times a day... Then when it's full (which for my two indoor/outdoor 10 month old kittens takes about 10 days) you open the bottom section, slice it with the built in cutter (which actually works way better than I was expecting), tie off the bag to toss it into the garbage, and pull out and tie off another fresh length of bag. The bags are very sturdy plastic and I've never had a tear but, just in case, I usually put the whole tied bag inside a plastic Safeway bag on the way to the outside garbage so I don't have to worry about testing the knots I tied."

"If your not familiar withe litter genie, is in basic terms a trash can lined with a plastic bag to scoop used litter/ waste into and store it until it is full, then throw the bag away... The bags are actually plastic sleeves without a sealed end rolled up in a cartridge that fits onto the top inside of the litter genie... Might not contain waste well if enough if you have a large dog that likes to eat out of litter box Overall I feel like it is a great idea and if they were to fix the couple cons listed, would be a great product."

"When you first pull the bag through and tie it off (the knot where you tie it becomes the bottom of the bag (this will make sense to you when you are doing it, I promise)), and after you close up the Litter Genie (so it's ready to go), *open the top*, pull out the trap door (this will make sense to you also when you are doing it), and *manually open up (expand) the bag so that it's wide open*!!! The act of tying the knot makes the bag crumple up all together, like it's shut tight, so i f you *don't* stick your hand in the (still clean) bag from the top, and push the bag wide open, the bag will not (or at least may not) actually open up to accept the clumps of litter!!... I'm now 2 1/2 weeks post my new hip installation, my friend is still here, and he's still not only not complaining about the litter, but actually still praising the Genie (and that was even after he carried the first full bag out to the trash!"

"Then the scooper comes with a holder, place that on the right side of the genie and then close both the bottom and top part of the genie together... I scoop out the litter boxes 3-4 times a day and now it is so easy, I don t mind doing it whereas before, I was using a doggie bag and then putting it into a garbage bin in the garage, that was a lot of work!... Once I am done scooping, there is a lever that pulls out and in goes the waste into the bottom part of the genie."

"Only producing enough trash to have to toss the garbage out every two-ish weeks worked splendidly until I adopted a cat and very quickly realized that unless I could do something something to fully mask the odor of her scooped litter in my trashcan, I would have to take daily trips to the outdoor garbage... At first I tried using the smaller bags that I put in my bathroom trashcan but they were hard to keep open to fill up and even when knotted multiple times wouldn't entirely keep the odor in... Scooping my cat's litter box used to be such a hassle that I would only really do it once at the end of each day, and sometimes would be really bad and go a day or two between scoops, but because the Litter Genie makes cleanup so easy and quick I now happily scoop the box multiple times per day."

"Tip: hold the lid against the top section when opening and tip the top half over to sit on the closed lid while you change a bag... That means that as it approaches the end, it will suddenly drop, so that if you're not careful you will end up scooping waste onto the side of the bag and into the cavity of the genie... That's handy to keep the tube cinched shut at the top to keep odors down in between scoops, but it also means that you have to periodically pull it (a two handed operation, while you've probably got a scooper in one hand), and it also means that after starting a new bag once the cavity of the litter genie fills, you must awkwardly try to pull out on this cover while attempting to push down into the genie to get the bottom of the bag to expand into the cavity."

"I'm not sure how people can stand this on a daily basis, let alone multiple times a day for cleaning. So *ahem* Pros (such as they are): - It has a lid - It's compact - It has a scoop holder on the side Cons (and they are many): - The sliding partition designed to keep the odors in (wtf... It fills up fast, and you can't quite tell when it has until it's too late (see above) at which point you have to bail out the top of the pail in order to get the bag pulled down to the cutter without causing a horrible mess... The bags split open if you're trying to push down the litter, they split open as you're pulling it down to the cutter, they split open when you're lifting it out, they'll split open if you somehow miraculously get them out your door intact on the way to the trash can... They do their thing over there and I clean it up and we don't look each other in the eye for a few minutes after and pretend it's not happening... - This thing doesn't have any of the convenience of the Diaper Genie in terms of opening-- the Diaper Genie has a step-open, you know, because if you've got sh** in your hands maybe you don't want to have to juggle and fiddle and curse open a lid on a plastic pail...

"Unfortunately I went out of town for five days and our housesitter didn't see that the bag had pulled out of the cartridge so it was only half catching any solids being dumped into it and cleaning it up was not fun at all... Before when I cleaned the litter box for my two cats I would always use small dog poo bags like the ones that you would use when walking a dog and while they worked, it was kind of a pain and I was going through too many of them scooping 2-3 times a day... The bags are very sturdy plastic and I've never had a tear but, just in case, I usually put the whole tied bag inside a plastic Safeway bag on the way to the outside garbage so I don't have to worry about testing the knots I tied... I also really like to use the included scoop, which is a nice quality plastic, never flexes like some of the cheaper ones I've had do, and is a good size to avoid spilling any solids out of the opening of the Litter Genie. And it fits into the little holder that fits onto the side of the can so that you don't have to find a place for it - something I never really thought about but makes a huge difference! Another benefit is that there's absolutely no smell from the can even when it's full and time to change it, and I love that my dogs can't get into it because that is nasty."

"* After reading reviews and looking for an alternative to wasting a lot of plastic trash bags scooping my litter boxes, I decided to try the litter genie... If your not familiar withe litter genie, is in basic terms a trash can lined with a plastic bag to scoop used litter/ waste into and store it until it is full, then throw the bag away... The bags are actually plastic sleeves without a sealed end rolled up in a cartridge that fits onto the top inside of the litter genie... There is a plastic ledge about halfway down the genie that cuts the genie in half and pushes the bag closed at the top... For those of us that use really nice metal scoopers, they tend to be wider than 4" making it easy to miss some funnel a little and have some litter fall onto the floor... The opening is a little small for using with larger scoopers or bigger clumps of litter with ckd cats (-1 point) 3. Might not contain waste well if enough if you have a large dog that likes to eat out of litter box Overall I feel like it is a great idea and if they were to fix the couple cons listed, would be a great product."

"Well, I'm here to tell you that given what it is, and what it's made out of, and the price, well, I think they should call it Genius instead of Genie (although I'm sure they are trading on the Diaper Genie craze)... Now, this same friend had taken care of me and mine a few months earlier, when I broke my wrist and needed surgery (yes, in my house 2017 is the Year of the Surgery), and yeah, he really grumbled about the cat - and especially the cat box - a lot... So you may have to wiggle it a bit when you put it together to get it to close tightly, and to get the scoop holder to be fitted, but that is a small price to pay for how well it works... When you first pull the bag through and tie it off (the knot where you tie it becomes the bottom of the bag (this will make sense to you when you are doing it, I promise)), and after you close up the Litter Genie (so it's ready to go), *open the top*, pull out the trap door (this will make sense to you also when you are doing it), and *manually open up (expand) the bag so that it's wide open*!!! The act of tying the knot makes the bag crumple up all together, like it's shut tight, so i f you *don't* stick your hand in the (still clean) bag from the top, and push the bag wide open, the bag will not (or at least may not) actually open up to accept the clumps of litter!!... " It does work, but the weight of the clumps is not going to cause the bag to open wide on its own - so open it up wide before you try to put anything in there! I'm now 2 1/2 weeks post my new hip installation, my friend is still here, and he's still not only not complaining about the litter, but actually still praising the Genie (and that was even after he carried the first full bag out to the trash!"

"I have been searching for some time trying different products here and there, and none of them worked as well as this product. After almost giving up on finding a product that would conceal the litter odor, I luckily came across this item and really liked the design and had to purchase it... You take the refill cartridge and peel out the plastic piece that is holding the bags inside the cartridge... Then the scooper comes with a holder, place that on the right side of the genie and then close both the bottom and top part of the genie together... I keep one Genie next to two litters boxes inside the laundry room and the other genie in our screened-in porch where the cats like to stay during the day...

"That was until I moved to the top floor of a walk-up apartment building that doesn't have a trash chute and started doing whatever I could to minimize the amount of times I had to lug my garbage down flights and flights of stairs... Only producing enough trash to have to toss the garbage out every two-ish weeks worked splendidly until I adopted a cat and very quickly realized that unless I could do something something to fully mask the odor of her scooped litter in my trashcan, I would have to take daily trips to the outdoor garbage. The idea of wasting so many plastic garbage bags and making multiple trips to the big garbage bin was not one I was super willing to entertain but stuck with it for a bit because that was a better option than letting my apartment reek. At first I tried using the smaller bags that I put in my bathroom trashcan but they were hard to keep open to fill up and even when knotted multiple times wouldn't entirely keep the odor in. Double bagging worked for the smell but using 2+ tiny garbage bags per day just for my cat's poop was too counterproductive to my ongoing attempt to help the environment... Scooping my cat's litter box used to be such a hassle that I would only really do it once at the end of each day, and sometimes would be really bad and go a day or two between scoops, but because the Litter Genie makes cleanup so easy and quick I now happily scoop the box multiple times per day. Thank you, Litter Genie, for ensuring that my apartment always smells great, for minimizing my plastic waste, for making it so I don't have to toss my trash out often, and for helping me keep my cat's litter box cleaner than I even keep my own bathroom!"

"The litter genie is very top heavy, making it fall over when opening the hinged top section to change bags. Tip: hold the lid against the top section when opening and tip the top half over to sit on the closed lid while you change a bag... You may want to wear a glove, because you've been scooping feces and urine soaked litter into this thing... You must find the edge of the plastic tube to pull down through the refill, which is easier said then done... They could have improved this by placing a sticker or tab on the edge of the plastic tube, or shipping the refills with the plastic tube already pulled through...
