"Then the first G-shock lasted for about 4 years, and the only reason why I don't have it any more is it got ripped off my arm somewhere while literally crawling through jungle on a mountaineering approach.""maybe a dozen times a year I put on a dress watch for an event), easy to read, illumination, an alarm, easy way to track seconds (counting respirations etc as EMT), and that doesn't cost more than $60 because I know my every day watch will take a beating."
"This is not only ideal for military personnel but anyone who is looking for a rugged durable everyday work horse watch."
"To my surprise it does work, however you need to depress the button much harder than the other buttons to get it to work at all, and even then it still may take a few very deep presses to get it to work."
"The four side-buttons as well as the central light button (the one with the big "G" letter inscribed on its surface) are of very good size, easy to locate and press even when not looking at the watch."
"* I wear this watch every day and I can't say that I even realize it sometimes I find myself checking not only the time, but that I remembered to put on my watch that day."
"the light is very bright and stays on if you keep it pressed, but turns off after 3 seconds if you let go."

"Then the first G-shock lasted for about 4 years, and the only reason why I don't have it any more is it got ripped off my arm somewhere while literally crawling through jungle on a mountaineering approach... the main one is that these watches have the most useless alarms of any timepiece known to man... OK, I'm the wrong side of 40 now so this might not be an issue for younger folks, but I really have to extend my arm to see the time if I'm not wearing my reading glasses, particularly at night/by headtorch.""I destroyed 4 or 5 "rugged" watches (every single one got ripped off my arm when getting caught on something) in the first couple of years as a firefighter / EMT... maybe a dozen times a year I put on a dress watch for an event), easy to read, illumination, an alarm, easy way to track seconds (counting respirations etc as EMT), and that doesn't cost more than $60 because I know my every day watch will take a beating... The only things that have broken are the two pieces of light grey rubber that run under the edges of the bands and cover the protruding edges of the metal rod that holds the band to the watch piece."
"* I wanted to wait a few weeks before writing my review but I so impressed with this watch out of the box I couldn't wait... This is not only ideal for military personnel but anyone who is looking for a rugged durable everyday work horse watch... If this watch lasts long time then I will purchase another G shock again in the future."
"However I can longer adjust the time or anything on the watch really... To my surprise it does work, however you need to depress the button much harder than the other buttons to get it to work at all, and even then it still may take a few very deep presses to get it to work. But I was able to update the time to the exact time it actually is and I'm now using it again as my daily watch for work and school."
"* I've owned two Casio G-Shock DW9052 watches - this review is issued having just received the second one... 5 years; its band broke while playing soccer as a goalkeeper (should have taken it off), and while still functioning OK I decided to buy a new one in account of the cost of replacing said part being higher (mind you, I'm from Argentina)... The four side-buttons as well as the central light button (the one with the big "G" letter inscribed on its surface) are of very good size, easy to locate and press even when not looking at the watch."
"* I wear this watch every day and I can't say that I even realize it sometimes I find myself checking not only the time, but that I remembered to put on my watch that day. You probably won't get this synced to the exact second considering it is a manual setting, and it can feel kind of clumsy with the buttons not really having a haptic click or anything... I appreciate the other features of the watch to some degree with being able to use stop watch, timer, hourly alarms and the backlight button (by the way, it's the "G" button on the face."
"I'm worried about some of the other reviews, so I'll update if anything comes up. I have scoured the internet looking how to spot a fake G-Shock and as far as I can tell, this is NOT a fake... the light is very bright and stays on if you keep it pressed, but turns off after 3 seconds if you let go."

"* This is the second G-shock that I've bought so I do like them, despite some major reservations... Then the first G-shock lasted for about 4 years, and the only reason why I don't have it any more is it got ripped off my arm somewhere while literally crawling through jungle on a mountaineering approach... So yeah, if ruggedness is your major criterion for purchase (like me) then it's hard to go past this line of watches... the main one is that these watches have the most useless alarms of any timepiece known to man... I can't think of a single instance where I've set this alarm and it has actually woken me up - even under quiet conditions and when I've set multiple back-to-back alarms... OK, I'm the wrong side of 40 now so this might not be an issue for younger folks, but I really have to extend my arm to see the time if I'm not wearing my reading glasses, particularly at night/by headtorch... Minor gripe - despite extensive searching I've never found any way to set the date format to anything other than the American MM-DD-YY system.""I destroyed 4 or 5 "rugged" watches (every single one got ripped off my arm when getting caught on something) in the first couple of years as a firefighter / EMT. Nothing lasted a full year until this watch and it's been going strong for four years now... maybe a dozen times a year I put on a dress watch for an event), easy to read, illumination, an alarm, easy way to track seconds (counting respirations etc as EMT), and that doesn't cost more than $60 because I know my every day watch will take a beating... After four years there is some minor wear in the black resin and one small scratch on the face of the watch. Finally had to change the original battery after 3 years and that was easy..... The only things that have broken are the two pieces of light grey rubber that run under the edges of the bands and cover the protruding edges of the metal rod that holds the band to the watch piece. These pieces are barely visible when you're wearing the watch so it doesn't matter much that they broke off."
"* I wanted to wait a few weeks before writing my review but I so impressed with this watch out of the box I couldn't wait... This is my first G shock watch also and I'm blown away with the quality and simple style of this watch... This is not only ideal for military personnel but anyone who is looking for a rugged durable everyday work horse watch. I will revise my review should I have any issues but for now I am very content with the purchase... This particular model is a few years old but the skin like some watches do. It's a older model but better than some current models that are higher in price... If this watch lasts long time then I will purchase another G shock again in the future."
"Good size, decent fit for larger wrists, great for wet-related work, nice bumper around the crystal to protect from scratching, although the crystal itself is actually very resistant to scratches... There are some minor scuffs but if anything it adds character to the watch... I've had it for several months now and it's still kicking and in great shape... However I can longer adjust the time or anything on the watch really... Update 3-22-18: After letting the watch sit in my drawer for several months, I figured I'd try it again and see if the adjust button works again. To my surprise it does work, however you need to depress the button much harder than the other buttons to get it to work at all, and even then it still may take a few very deep presses to get it to work. But I was able to update the time to the exact time it actually is and I'm now using it again as my daily watch for work and school."

Having explained this, I consider my overall experience with this model to be quite satisfactory, which at this point would be stating the obvious considering I bought it twice... The four side-buttons as well as the central light button (the one with the big "G" letter inscribed on its surface) are of very good size, easy to locate and press even when not looking at the watch. The afterglow backlight is without a doubt one of its best features, providing superb luminosity and visibilty even when surrounded by pitch-black darkness... I have worn this watch while swimming both in fresh and saltwater, and also when water-skiing, without observing any malfunction whatsoever... Consequently, I would say this product offers a great value for money and is perfectly suitable for everyday round-the-clock use including sports and amphibious activities."

I appreciate the other features of the watch to some degree with being able to use stop watch, timer, hourly alarms and the backlight button (by the way, it's the "G" button on the face. Didn't realize it was a button at first), however this watch probably won't wake you up if you're a deep sleeper. The beeping doesn't seem to be very loud but if you need to rely on a watch for an alarm nowadays you might have some issues anyways. Lastly, it is a pretty large watch; built with good quality durable materials, and it has a 'tough' aesthetic. It is definitely for those with large hands/wrists so weight the purchase of this watch accordingly with your physical build."
"I'm worried about some of the other reviews, so I'll update if anything comes up. I have scoured the internet looking how to spot a fake G-Shock and as far as I can tell, this is NOT a fake. It comes with all original packaging right down to the warranty card, box, and the manual... Not too chunky, and not thin or small either. He is very particular about looking "tactical" in his uniform, and he says it's perfect... It was very easy to set everything, except the year part threw me off a little...... the light is very bright and stays on if you keep it pressed, but turns off after 3 seconds if you let go."
