"I did a comparison between both bags with the same exact load, and the big student pack felt heavier, was more uncomfortable because of the straps and overall felt like it was harsher on my back.""While my old big student backpack could keep going, I think that after so many years of use it would be a good idea to replace."

"Even when I gained lockers, I did not put my stuff in them as it'd be too much of a bother to travel all around the school to get something from it when there is only so much time to get to class."
"Of course, I know Jansport is known for their backpacks, but it was all a matter of finding something large enough, as next semester I'll have days with all four classes, as well as having to bring gym clothes along with me."
"It holds more than any other backpack we have tried in the past, and has two main compartments, along with several side pockets for smaller items--even a top pocket for a cell phone, if she had one."
"The original JanSport student backpack had a protective leather bottom, but I guess they decided to be cheap and get rid of that with this version."

"I can fit about 3 college textbooks with 3-80 page notebooks, with some space to go The main compartment of the big student pack is about an inch less wide than the main compartment of my old Billabong backpack. I did a comparison between both bags with the same exact load, and the big student pack felt heavier, was more uncomfortable because of the straps and overall felt like it was harsher on my back... Overall, you're probably not going to get a magical big backpack that can fit a whole high school students locker worth of books.""While my old big student backpack could keep going, I think that after so many years of use it would be a good idea to replace... Laptops 16" and under will fit fine, but there is little protection for them so don't drop the bag... Wish there was another side pocket so we could place another water bottle or an umbrella."
"I used Jansport throughout college and has, without a doubt, been the best investment for a Strong/Sturdy backpack that you would ever need... "Even when I gained lockers, I did not put my stuff in them as it'd be too much of a bother to travel all around the school to get something from it when there is only so much time to get to class... After all this time it still doesn't show any wear beyond some dust that's accumulated on the bottom from sitting it on class floors and some slight (and I mean like if you took a dull shaving razor and lightly scraped it along small bits of it) scratching from sliding it under desks. If your tired of having to purchase new bookbags every year or think your going to need something that can handle a lot of stress/weight, look no further!"
"Of course, I know Jansport is known for their backpacks, but it was all a matter of finding something large enough, as next semester I'll have days with all four classes, as well as having to bring gym clothes along with me. The main compartment of this bag is huggggeee, and I've managed to fit two textbooks, four notebooks, and my computer in it, with room to spare... The pocket at the very front is the perfect size to carry my lunch, while I still have plenty of room in the rest for pens, pencils, calculators, my computer charger, my phone, wallet, and I imagine, anything else I'd have to bring in a regular school day."
"It holds more than any other backpack we have tried in the past, and has two main compartments, along with several side pockets for smaller items--even a top pocket for a cell phone, if she had one. We purchased this backpack with a different pattern in a store last year, and after a year of heavy use and over-stuffing, the bottom has not fallen out yet, or even begun to fray... There are no wheels on this backpack, if that is what you are looking for, but we were not."
"The original JanSport student backpack had a protective leather bottom, but I guess they decided to be cheap and get rid of that with this version. The bottom of my backpack is already starting to develop a small tear in the bottom, which I'm sure will only get worse with time... Also, since the holder is only on one side, the backpack feels uneven if you put a water bottle in it."

"I bought this backpack in black because I figured that with a lifetime warranty for a bag that should last forever I might as well get a classic color... (The pictures on Amazon don't match the pictures on the main Jansport website too) This backpack wasn't as big as I thought it would be. I can fit about 3 college textbooks with 3-80 page notebooks, with some space to go The main compartment of the big student pack is about an inch less wide than the main compartment of my old Billabong backpack. I did a comparison between both bags with the same exact load, and the big student pack felt heavier, was more uncomfortable because of the straps and overall felt like it was harsher on my back... Other things you should note: The base of the bag is not reinforced The material is very sturdy There are plenty of compartments!... Overall, you're probably not going to get a magical big backpack that can fit a whole high school students locker worth of books... Also shipping note: I ordered this from the ebags seller on Amazon, with free shipping that was supposed to take 1-2 days processing, and 3-5 days shipping.""I bought this product to replace my older Big Student Jansport backpack that I've had since 2006... While my old big student backpack could keep going, I think that after so many years of use it would be a good idea to replace... Laptops 16" and under will fit fine, but there is little protection for them so don't drop the bag... Wish there was another side pocket so we could place another water bottle or an umbrella. Since I did have an older model Jansport Big Student backpack, I can see some changes... The older model was light gray and this one is darker, which is better so I'm not complaining... Still haven't been able to test whether comfort has changed so I will update this review in a few weeks if I notice discomfort."
"I used Jansport throughout college and has, without a doubt, been the best investment for a Strong/Sturdy backpack that you would ever need. I went to undergraduate school and Medical School, and MANY times I carried a lot of books and the Jansport backpack was the Best at carrying heavy loads. It is not made for the laptop, specifically, yet can carry one without a problem... The dimensions are not what Amazon has provided us with, yet here are the true dimensions for the 'Jansport BIG Student Backpack': Product Features: Lifetime Warranty S-Curve shoulder straps Two large main compartments for versatile storage Front gear pocket with audio electronics organizer Quick-find cell phone pocket on the top of front side Stash pocket with expandable pleats on lower front side Fully padded back panel for cushioning comfort Detailed Product Description: The Big Student is a durable, ergonomically-designed bag with a fully padded back panel and padded shoulder straps... I use small locks where the zippers meet, because the end of the zippers have little holes that allow small locks to lock the zippers... I would not submerge it in water to see if it is really waterproof, yet for almost anybody's needs it will keep everything dry inside of it... If anything goes wrong, just get in touch with Jansport, they will be more than helpful, considering it has a Lifetime guarantee, and Jansport has been around for a very long time."
"Even when I gained lockers, I did not put my stuff in them as it'd be too much of a bother to travel all around the school to get something from it when there is only so much time to get to class. That isn't even mentioning that i'm forgetful and would leave something important at the school. So I knew I needed a heavy-duty bookbag that could take heavy loads, and this is what I came up with... It's been three or four years and I have not had to replace it yet! That's with everything i've needed inside it for that particular day for three or four school years!...

The S-shaped straps on the bag are unlike any bag I've had before... Not uncomfortable, but just take some getting used to. Actually, they're kind of nice because I feel like they give me better support for my bag, and hopefully I'll have less back pain. The only other thing worth mentioning is that on this particular listing, the navy blue is SLIGHTLY bluer in the picture than what shipped (which is fine by me, and what I was hoping for)."
"This brand and style of backpack has been the one that has lasted the longest and been the most practical for my 7th grader... The JanSport Big Student Backpack expands to the point where she can fit most everything. It holds more than any other backpack we have tried in the past, and has two main compartments, along with several side pockets for smaller items--even a top pocket for a cell phone, if she had one. We purchased this backpack with a different pattern in a store last year, and after a year of heavy use and over-stuffing, the bottom has not fallen out yet, or even begun to fray... Could no longer find this particular model in stores, but plenty available on Amazon at various price points and patterns... The zippers on the replacement backpack seem stiffer than the first, but otherwise it seems the same. There are no wheels on this backpack, if that is what you are looking for, but we were not."
"Amazingly, they have RAISED the price of this backpack from the original JanSport student backpack, yet the quality has gone down!... The original JanSport student backpack had a protective leather bottom, but I guess they decided to be cheap and get rid of that with this version. The bottom of my backpack is already starting to develop a small tear in the bottom, which I'm sure will only get worse with time... I have to take the backpack off while walking sometimes because it's so painful... A chest strap to connect the two shoulder straps would help a lot with this, but it doesn't come with that... Also, since the holder is only on one side, the backpack feels uneven if you put a water bottle in it... I have had much better backpacks that I bought from Target or Walmart for very cheap."
