"I can feel for the person who didn't like that it is a onetime use only, but I'm not sure I would want to be unnecessarily climbing down an emergency ladder two stories for practice anyway.""Unless you have a lot of rope and know your knots, which I do, but still - I'd rather trust the engineers at Kidde with my life than something I put together based on a survival handbook."
"* Like The Idea, But Thankfully I Haven't Had To Use It."
"I tried placing the ladder in place, without deploying the ladder and it got perfectly."
"* I had read previous reviews, so I know that it is probably not a good idea to deploy the ladder for practice as it could be a pain to put it back in order as it was before deployment."
"* I had to return, this product was dangerous because the metal on the steps was very sharp."
"* Bought it to keep our daughter safe as she lives out of town in an attic apartment for which she pays beaucoup bucks for!"

"I can feel for the person who didn't like that it is a onetime use only, but I'm not sure I would want to be unnecessarily climbing down an emergency ladder two stories for practice anyway... I have one of these on each end of the house upstairs and I take all houseguests to each location and explain the "drill" as well as show them where fire extinguishers are. You should have fire extinguishers in any house just like you should have smoke detectors, and you should have some sort of escape ladders if more than one story.""Unless you have a lot of rope and know your knots, which I do, but still - I'd rather trust the engineers at Kidde with my life than something I put together based on a survival handbook... And when fires come, I'll try to hold out for as long as I can before putting this out my 3rd floor window and hoping it holds me and the weight of my bug out bag... It says not to open the packaging until you have to use it, I guess it's extremely difficult to refold into an operational state."
"* Was looking for an escape ladder to give me options to escape a fire from my condo. I tried placing the ladder in place, without deploying the ladder and it got perfectly. Hope I never have to use it, but I am very happy I bought the product."
"* I had read previous reviews, so I know that it is probably not a good idea to deploy the ladder for practice as it could be a pain to put it back in order as it was before deployment. That is unfortunate as periodic practice would be a good idea in order to be best prepared in an emergency... I know however, that with many safety items using nylon webbing, one should expect to replace the item after about 5 years."

"I can feel for the person who didn't like that it is a onetime use only, but I'm not sure I would want to be unnecessarily climbing down an emergency ladder two stories for practice anyway. The instructions DO say one time use, but that may be "actually" using it, not "deploying" for a test run... The release strap is Velcro and I don't see any reason this cannot be deployed, then gathered back up carefully and re-strapped... I have one of these on each end of the house upstairs and I take all houseguests to each location and explain the "drill" as well as show them where fire extinguishers are. You should have fire extinguishers in any house just like you should have smoke detectors, and you should have some sort of escape ladders if more than one story... Someone else could get out first and help break the fall of those who can't climb down... It's bad enough to lose nearly everything but you can be thankful if everyone gets out with their life.""Unless you have a lot of rope and know your knots, which I do, but still - I'd rather trust the engineers at Kidde with my life than something I put together based on a survival handbook... I can see thick black smoke on the horizon but I don't hear the distinctive sirens or see any fire engines around anymore. And when fires come, I'll try to hold out for as long as I can before putting this out my 3rd floor window and hoping it holds me and the weight of my bug out bag... I might need to put him in a rucksack or a sleeping bag and lower him down over the side with a rope... But I have not seen a product like that available for resale - contact me if you have... It says not to open the packaging until you have to use it, I guess it's extremely difficult to refold into an operational state... But my first move in a fire is actually to go to the roof of my building and escape across my neighbor's adjoining rooftops to safety."
"* I had read previous reviews, so I know that it is probably not a good idea to deploy the ladder for practice as it could be a pain to put it back in order as it was before deployment. That is unfortunate as periodic practice would be a good idea in order to be best prepared in an emergency. I have little doubt though, that it will perform as needed, if needed. With all hope however, that time will never come. I'm not sure if there is an expiration date on it. I know however, that with many safety items using nylon webbing, one should expect to replace the item after about 5 years. I will contact the manufacturer of this to find out what the safe life expectancy of this ladder is."
