"") There are several breeds I've suspected in his lineage, but before getting the test results, I forced myself to pick the four I thought were most likely. When the test results arrived, I knew they were right on, because Wisdom Panel found the same four breeds I'd predicted: Chow, Malamute, German Shepherd, and Gray Wolf... It's probably not an issue for most dogs, but my dog has never been too keen on me sticking stuff in his mouth (no tooth brushing for him), and he's not the type to be forced into anything."

To prevent mismatching dogs with their prospective families, or fostering a better understanding of potential health issues, every shelter and rescue should use it as standard protocol before adopting out."

"The timeline was: Mailed 12/24/16, Email from Wisdom Panel showing receipt on 12/28/16, and we received an email saying the results report was ready on 1/12/17, which is 2 weeks and 1 day from receipt... ) The report was easily downloaded to a pdf which was 10 pages long, and included the following sections (as of January 13, 2017): (1) Key Breeds Detected a genealogy chart which shows great grandparents, grandparents, and parents); (2) Key Breed History, Appearance and Behavior (one section for each key breed detected; in our case we had two), which tells you things like height, weight, ear, muzzle and tail characteristics, roots (e... , the Sheltie has its roots in the Shetland Islands off the coast of Scotland), coat type and colors, markings and traits; (3) Ours had a Mixed Breed Ancestry section, since this was part of Rose's DNA makeup. I've already ordered another test (we have two dogs) and would highly recommend it to anyone.""They were the only one at the time that didn't ask for a picture, and they had the most breeds available to test for... Neither of my dogs wanted to let me take their swabs, something that i didn't think about before buying the tests... I already knew for the most part the breeds of one of my dogs because i saw the parents, even though she was a mix and an accident... I knew beagle and lab but not boxer, but this explained why her body was the way it was, not a beagle or lab shaped body, and she has a tail that goes up, not like a lab or beagle either, and she jumps NON STOP... My other dog i had no idea what she was, but we were told from the shelter she was a border collie/sheperd mix, and the shelter said her owners surrendered her as an akita mix but they didn't believe it. Everyone always says she looks border collie, but after having her for 6 years i just didn't see it other than being black and white... "* For 11 years I've wondered what my beautiful black rescue dog might be, and now, thanks to Wisdom Panel 3... Most people think he looks like a wolf, but there are obvious non-wolf characteristics, like straight back legs, a curled tail, and a GSD-like personality... ") There are several breeds I've suspected in his lineage, but before getting the test results, I forced myself to pick the four I thought were most likely. When the test results arrived, I knew they were right on, because Wisdom Panel found the same four breeds I'd predicted: Chow, Malamute, German Shepherd, and Gray Wolf... I didn't know the test can identify the type of wolf, so I was extra-pleased to see that they were able to tell me that his great-grandparent was specifically a Gray Wolf... It's probably not an issue for most dogs, but my dog has never been too keen on me sticking stuff in his mouth (no tooth brushing for him), and he's not the type to be forced into anything... Results were ready about 2 1/2 weeks from the time they received the samples."
"Like when the rescue organization markets your cute fluff ball puppy as a Great Pyrenees / German Shepherd mix who's going to grow to be HUGE!... Lucky for him, I didn't know his actual breed ahead of time or I would have never adopted him... Results confirmed that our William is 50% Chow, and various percentages of Lab, Husky and other breeds... I expected this, as English Shepherds, a herding breed common in rural parts of the country but virtually unknown to the greater American public, are not included in Wisdom Panel's data base. This is why I feel so strongly about Wisdom Panel: Folks need to know who they're adopting, either for temperament or health reasons... Last story, my family has just taken in a neighbor's dog who they were told is a Poodle /Maltese mix... To prevent mismatching dogs with their prospective families, or fostering a better understanding of potential health issues, every shelter and rescue should use it as standard protocol before adopting out."
"There were only a couple of things I wish were improved upon, but this is a great value for those who just want to know what comprises their pup... We knew she was Siberian Husky and German Shepherd primarily due to knowing the household she came from, her siblings and parents, and former owners... What we couldn't decipher was her mom; she was extremely tall, as big as a Great Dane, and as curvy and leggy as a Greyhound; but she had brindling markings, and a face that spoke to many different breeds... Admittedly, I thought it included deciphering what other illnesses and conditions she might be prone to, but since you can look up general conditions commonly attributed to specific breeds - which I now know and can look up individually - I will make do with just knowing what breeds she's got... It only took about two weeks for it to show results, from the time the samples were received to when the report had been published online... I was a little disappointed that was all they could identify specifically, considering we are pretty sure she has Malinois in her somewhere, but the remaining 12... While there's still mystery, I am happy that I at least know most of what Adelis has in her geneology, and recommend this test to others as curious as I was!"
"The rest of the process was exceedingly simple: let the swabs air-dry for a bit, then place them in the sealed container and ship it back off, all postage paid by the company. Make a free account on their website with the sample number you used, then wait for them to receive your swabs in the mail... But the analysis was able to go beyond simply stating "mixed breed"; they specified that the remaining mix was likely of terrier, companion, or sporting dog descent. They even managed to construct a family tree going back three generations to my dog's great-grandparents, showing what pedigree or mix each one was!... How this test may fail you: if your precious mutt has lineage that is too diluted, then your results may likely not come back with any clear breeds overall. For example, if each grandparent is comprised of eight different breeds, then your dog will likely not appear as much of anything specific... ) I highly reccomend this test for anyone curious about their mutt's genetic makeup."
