"I also did not have to worry about lose ends flapping in the wind because I actually tied the excess straps down with some string.""We stopped halfway to sleep overnight and we were able to take the entire bag off the car, load it onto a luggage cart, and take it into our room without unpacking it."
"Well, it worked great as a non skid pad when the roof was warm and dry, but cold and wet it didn't do anything, and may have exacerbated the slipping of the carrier - again, thank goodness we had our own tie downs."
"You will notice that in order to make sure the velcro is in use you can't fully pack it and it will seem like there is a little space on top that could be filled."
"1 star is deducted for all that is mentioned and I am now (after writing the first part of this review) deducting a second star for how annoyed I am that other (cheaper) Righline Gear bags include the clips yet this one doesn't."
"That's important because if it's raining WHEN you need to load up, there's nothing to be done to keep your things totally dry."
"* "full up" - Because I had read about it needing to be full, I tried packing it as full as I could, but it's so big there were still a few empty spots in corners, between cases, etc..."

"I also did not have to worry about lose ends flapping in the wind because I actually tied the excess straps down with some string... ) In my carrier, I was able to fit three filing boxes (banker boxes) across the width without a problem, and even more smaller boxes to fill it up... I initially had expanded the carrier but did not want to risk water getting into it, so I took out some stuff.""The clips that hold the bag in place worked well but at first it sounded like the door was just slightly open at speeds greater than 40 mph... The zipper has a rain flap but the entire bag also folds down around the edges to add another layer of protection for the zippers... We stopped halfway to sleep overnight and we were able to take the entire bag off the car, load it onto a luggage cart, and take it into our room without unpacking it."
"Then, as if to punctuate the shoddy construction - when I got to the last foot of zipper (again, packing on the way home) I found that the zipper itself had become separated from the carrier - the stitching had failed... Well, it worked great as a non skid pad when the roof was warm and dry, but cold and wet it didn't do anything, and may have exacerbated the slipping of the carrier - again, thank goodness we had our own tie downs... If you go on a trip with this loaded and it breaks as mine did, you may not be able to use it and find yourself with more stuff than you have cargo room for."
"I had read from some other reviews that it was easy to install so I waited to figure it out until we had to pack everything for camping... Next fill the carrier with as much as you can but make sure you are able to zip it up and still have the velcro able to close up. You will notice that in order to make sure the velcro is in use you can't fully pack it and it will seem like there is a little space on top that could be filled."
"What i'm saying here is that many reviews discuss difficulty with these straps, from the instructions to the assembly (combining straps, attaching straps etc)... 1 star is deducted for all that is mentioned and I am now (after writing the first part of this review) deducting a second star for how annoyed I am that other (cheaper) Righline Gear bags include the clips yet this one doesn't... I feel like a lot of duffles require you to fold the item up perfectly, then you still have to cram mash and bounce on whatever it is that you're trying to put in the duffle."
"Anticipating a lack of space for said vacation, I researched (at length) and then purchased one of these Rightline Gear car top carriers... * Completely waterproof - we were caught in several downpours on our trip but everything inside was totally dry when we arrived... That's important because if it's raining WHEN you need to load up, there's nothing to be done to keep your things totally dry."
"* "full up" - Because I had read about it needing to be full, I tried packing it as full as I could, but it's so big there were still a few empty spots in corners, between cases, etc..... The case performed perfectly, didn't appreciably lower our gas mileage, didn't create any unbearable wind noise, stayed perfect stable (we did buy the mat to go underneath, but it wasn't really necessary) and was in perfect condition when we arrived in Vegas... We found once we hit certain speeds (especially since the speed limit is so high on I-15) that if any air got underneath the carrier at those speeds the mat would vibrate against the roof and would be incredibly loud."

"I also did not have to worry about lose ends flapping in the wind because I actually tied the excess straps down with some string... ) In my carrier, I was able to fit three filing boxes (banker boxes) across the width without a problem, and even more smaller boxes to fill it up... I initially had expanded the carrier but did not want to risk water getting into it, so I took out some stuff... The only reason the hole was created was because of the compression straps putting too much pressure on one of the corners of the boxes... The PackRight Sport 1 Car Top met my needs and was great for my two week road trip across the US in my Toyota 4Runner... I read some reviews that some people thought that you could get by without one..... By the time I got to SF and unloaded, I could see clearly from the debris where I had used the liner.""The clips that hold the bag in place worked well but at first it sounded like the door was just slightly open at speeds greater than 40 mph... During periods of heavy rain all four of the clips caused leaking water to get into the car and onto us... The second time I packed it more spread out the bag flapped loudly at 50 mph till I reloaded it with most of the gear toward the front of the car again... In the future I will load the bag first with everything I can and only put gear inside my car if it won't fit in the bag... On our return portion I stuffed the bag out with blankets and towels which seemed to work well to prevent flapping... The zipper has a rain flap but the entire bag also folds down around the edges to add another layer of protection for the zippers... We stopped halfway to sleep overnight and we were able to take the entire bag off the car, load it onto a luggage cart, and take it into our room without unpacking it."
"This shroud makes pulling the zipper closed very difficult, especially since zippling it closed happens after you get the carrier loaded and on the roof... Then, as if to punctuate the shoddy construction - when I got to the last foot of zipper (again, packing on the way home) I found that the zipper itself had become separated from the carrier - the stitching had failed. I doubled up my straps (fortunately I brought extras) because we drove home with a foot-long hole where the zipper had torn from the carrier... It is weather resistant enough, but when the rooftop is wet - or as we experienced had ice on it - the soft top carrier slides all over the place... If we did not have our own set (and extra set) of ratcheting tie downs, we would have had to pile all our stuff up around and under the kids to get home...

You will notice that in order to make sure the velcro is in use you can't fully pack it and it will seem like there is a little space on top that could be filled... Make sure to use both straps (one in front and one in back) so they will be going through both the front door and the back door. With the extra strapping after it's tightened you need to shut it inside the car when you are done... I did not figure out how to use the strapping without the clips- to me it seemed like it would just not work. I would have given 5 stars for the product because it was affordable and it did exactly what I needed."
"We did deal with Rain in moderation and we stopped to check the straps every 2 hours. Rightline, you're getting 4 stars because I didn't die... What i'm saying here is that many reviews discuss difficulty with these straps, from the instructions to the assembly (combining straps, attaching straps etc)... 1 star is deducted for all that is mentioned and I am now (after writing the first part of this review) deducting a second star for how annoyed I am that other (cheaper) Righline Gear bags include the clips yet this one doesn't... In short, I went and purchased two aftermarket ratcheting straps at a hardware store... If you can effectively explain why the clips are not included in this model I will add back in that star... I feel like a lot of duffles require you to fold the item up perfectly, then you still have to cram mash and bounce on whatever it is that you're trying to put in the duffle."
"When that's combined with multiple long trips throughout the year, packing our minivan has become something of an art form... Anticipating a lack of space for said vacation, I researched (at length) and then purchased one of these Rightline Gear car top carriers... There's no way we could have fit everything we needed inside our minivan, so this carrier saved the day. And because this is a soft-shell model, we were able to fit in oddly-shaped items while still being able to close it just fine. * Completely waterproof - we were caught in several downpours on our trip but everything inside was totally dry when we arrived... * This really isn't the carrier's fault, but you can't [practically] load the carrier BEFORE putting it on your car. That's important because if it's raining WHEN you need to load up, there's nothing to be done to keep your things totally dry."
"com) due to it being the largest carrier I could find, being soft-sided, waterproof and reasonably priced (especially compared to some hard carriers)... I was impressed the vendor took time to reply to a few comments and that the current version of the carrier resolves some of the older negative concerns (such as it not being waterproof before)... * "full up" - Because I had read about it needing to be full, I tried packing it as full as I could, but it's so big there were still a few empty spots in corners, between cases, etc..... We then drove from Provo to Las Vegas at 80MPH (there are several stretches in Utah where 80 is the legal limit, btw) in some pretty good wind. The case performed perfectly, didn't appreciably lower our gas mileage, didn't create any unbearable wind noise, stayed perfect stable (we did buy the mat to go underneath, but it wasn't really necessary) and was in perfect condition when we arrived in Vegas... One note - if you do use the non-slip mat underneath, only use it under the back half (or so) of the carrier. We found once we hit certain speeds (especially since the speed limit is so high on I-15) that if any air got underneath the carrier at those speeds the mat would vibrate against the roof and would be incredibly loud."
