"This is a great watch for: 1) A knock-around watch for someone who has nicer automatic dive watches they don't want to risk destroying 2) Someone who wants the look of a nice dive watch without spending a lot of cash (can't believe the price on this thing) 3) Great for a gift to a teenage boy who wants the look of his dad's real Swiss dive watch and he's not ready for one yet."
"My dad got himself the same one as me that Christmas, except in stainless, and anytime it came up in later years, he'd laugh and say something like "David, I think I wore that watch for thirty years and I only replaced the battery once."
"There is chrome accents everywhere: around the hands, hour markers, and bezel; actually the Submariner has those too, but for some reason Casio has also polished some parts of the case (but not all, why?"
"However, given the incredible accuracy of this watch, that is a one-time adjustment until the battery eventually dies (or I travel to another time zone and have to reset the hour hand, but I can easily live with that 5-6 times a year and, if anything, will get more intimate with exactly where the proper crown click is)."

"I've had it for about 14 years and was looking for something to wear for "other uses" as noted above, but wanted the dive style that I'm so accustomed to seeing on my wrist... This is a great watch for: 1) A knock-around watch for someone who has nicer automatic dive watches they don't want to risk destroying 2) Someone who wants the look of a nice dive watch without spending a lot of cash (can't believe the price on this thing) 3) Great for a gift to a teenage boy who wants the look of his dad's real Swiss dive watch and he's not ready for one yet... Then save cash for a while longer and buy something of REAL quality if you want a nicer Swiss-made dive watch in a higher price bracket (even saving for a nice Seiko dive watch in the $300-500 range is better than shelling out cash for a cheap knock-off deal)."
"My dad got himself the same one as me that Christmas, except in stainless, and anytime it came up in later years, he'd laugh and say something like "David, I think I wore that watch for thirty years and I only replaced the battery once... Living in New Mexico, this was totally useless, but I still liked the little fish that would appear when the tide was high or something... There are many watches that can do this and much more, but they are not this watch."
"The lume is not very bright, but lasts a long time, which is what you'd expect in a mid-range watch (rather than a cheap one like this, which often have very bright but short lasting lume)... There is chrome accents everywhere: around the hands, hour markers, and bezel; actually the Submariner has those too, but for some reason Casio has also polished some parts of the case (but not all, why?... Comfort: The style these days are for huuuge watches; but I find them uncomfortable; I once tried a watch that weighed a full half pound and was so enormous it often took chunks out of doorways I was passing through."
"The rotating bezel has a very solid click to it, and only rotates counter-clockwise so as to be truly useful when I go diving (those who complain that it doesn't rotate in both directions are clearly not divers and don't understand how a dive watch is supposed to function). My only challenge with this watch is that my poor presbyopic eyes can't make out the tiny date without my glasses on, however there are many jewelers that can affix a small magnifying bubble over the date window for very little cost, which should easily remedy the problem... However, given the incredible accuracy of this watch, that is a one-time adjustment until the battery eventually dies (or I travel to another time zone and have to reset the hour hand, but I can easily live with that 5-6 times a year and, if anything, will get more intimate with exactly where the proper crown click is)."
"Some people complain that it's not as bright as a Seiko SKX007 or Orient Mako or Ray models, but then again - it's not a Seiko or Orient watch, and costs about 1/3 of the price of the Seiko and 1/2 the price of an Orient. The crown-guards are also appropriately sized and keep the crown from snagging on anything, which I appreciate since I have worn this to work with long-sleeved shirts."

The strap is junk in my book because I don't like rubber/resin/silicone type straps, they make my wrist sweat in the sun (which is where I am when I'm in/on the water)even when I wear them loosely... Yes I have tried nato, zulu, canvas and leather but none of those will hold up in the water or they get a rancid smell after a very short time so bracelets work best for me and frankly I don't understand WHY anyone would put a diver on a leather strap IT"S SILLY SO STOP IT... I will admit that if you are just doing shallower dives frequently in and out that it does work although the lume isn't very large on the dial,The pearl is also very small and protrudes from the bezel slightly and I have seen others with it gone after a little scrape... SO overall what you have here is a very good watch for water sports that looks good and functions to the price point of $40 double that for a bracelet and now you are looking at a real diver (200m) that looks good for under $100... Update; Well I was wearing this watch again today on the lake and pulled into one of the nicer restaurant/marina's and noticed more than one person looking at my watch then an older looking gentleman with a very nice omega seamaster on looked at me and actually said "nice watch" ,I was floored I thanked him and we started talking watches of course and he agreed that for a "beater" he had never seen such a "striking watch", I have it on a shark mesh bracelet, of course I could tell this guy probably never owned a cheap watch in his life but he genuinely liked the watch you could tell by the way he looked very closely at it and he asked what it was and MODEL NUMBER!... I bought the first one as a beater but when I am working on old trucks/cars/motorcyles where I really beat up watches I can't bring myself to wear the 106 it almost has it's own ranking somewhere between beater and nice watch ,hard to explain once again.""Never mind the fractured logic of spending a small fortune to buy a rough, tough, but very elegant do-it-all watch, and then buying another one to wear when I don t want to put a scratch on my fancy rough tough watch... 3mm (just under half an inch), which is thinner than most other dive watches, even the Swiss watches, and almost 5mm thinner than the rubber-armored Casio G-Shock digital I ve been wearing for the last 10 years... The whole bezel/glass interface is exceptionally handsome, and with the flat glass and low bezel, you don't get that 'looking down into a well' feeling that some other dive watches give... There are nice touches all over this watch: all the dots of lume on the face have polished stainless surrounds (note: lume is used interchangeably to mean the glow-in-the-dark material or the glow itself, i... ), the one-way bezel ratchets very positively, if a bit stiffly, with 120 clicks per rev, the crown guards are nearly as tall as the crown, the pointer end of the second hand is very thin and painted red so it will never be confused with the hour and minute hands, and the face is mostly just black, clean, and uncluttered... It has none of the bling factor or cachet of Rolex or Omega, or even Seiko's high-end divers, but it does the same job ('cept for the lume) at a tiny fraction of their price, and looks amazing doing it... The three pictures show the bezel/glass interface, a simulated view without my reading glasses (I can actually see a little better than the picture), and how it looks on my wrist."
"I first noticed this when I found the watch (after not wearing it for a few weeks) was about 4 days, 7 hours and 24 minutes slow... I've had it for about 14 years and was looking for something to wear for "other uses" as noted above, but wanted the dive style that I'm so accustomed to seeing on my wrist... The stainless case is actually finished quite nicely, much better than a person can expect at this price point. The screw down crown is a nice touch but feels a lot more gritty than I'm used to, but again, for under $45, no real complaint... Not a lot else to say about this no frills rugged watch that's not embarrassing to have on my wrist when doing things you don't want to wear a nicer $500 - $1500+ watch for... Living in New Mexico, this was totally useless, but I still liked the little fish that would appear when the tide was high or something... There are many watches that can do this and much more, but they are not this watch... I need reading glasses for small print and still can't read the date with them on... With my Bulova, people have actually wanted to hold it, they have examined it closely and then complimented me on it, gave it back, and then looked at it on my arm as if they may mug me later... A few things that I will say that I haven't read about it in those other reviews... So I'll stop now, but expect an update when this watch becomes less of what it is now, or in the year 2040, whichever comes first."
"The lume is not very bright, but lasts a long time, which is what you'd expect in a mid-range watch (rather than a cheap one like this, which often have very bright but short lasting lume). If you're dark adapted you can read it five or six hours after a good light exposure, although the lume on the second hand is nearly useless. That's a serious fault if you're using this for diving (which you shouldn't), because the main function of a second hand is to tell you whether your watch is stopped and you need to ascend immediately... It's a unidirectional bezel (a diving legacy that keeps you from underestimating how long you've been down) with 120 clicks/rotation... There is chrome accents everywhere: around the hands, hour markers, and bezel; actually the Submariner has those too, but for some reason Casio has also polished some parts of the case (but not all, why?... Comfort: The style these days are for huuuge watches; but I find them uncomfortable; I once tried a watch that weighed a full half pound and was so enormous it often took chunks out of doorways I was passing through... Again you probably know how you feel about plastic-y bands, but that's easy to fix."
"The lume on the face and hands is more than bright enough to see what time it is in the dark, thought it takes a bit of concentration to locate the second hand since the lume on it is quite small. The rotating bezel has a very solid click to it, and only rotates counter-clockwise so as to be truly useful when I go diving (those who complain that it doesn't rotate in both directions are clearly not divers and don't understand how a dive watch is supposed to function). My only challenge with this watch is that my poor presbyopic eyes can't make out the tiny date without my glasses on, however there are many jewelers that can affix a small magnifying bubble over the date window for very little cost, which should easily remedy the problem. At least I knew going into this purchase that I'd need to address the unmagnified date at some point, so I'm not going to deduct anything for that... I don't want to have to worry about forgetting to take off my watch when I shower, dive, do dishes, wash the car, mess with the lawn sprinklers or any of the other myriad things involving water that I'd have to be a lot more conscious of with a more delicate watch... Mine was a little tough to manipulate in that I couldn't really tell at first if it was all the way out for initial adjustment, plus the first and second pull-out stops were not overtly obvious. However, given the incredible accuracy of this watch, that is a one-time adjustment until the battery eventually dies (or I travel to another time zone and have to reset the hour hand, but I can easily live with that 5-6 times a year and, if anything, will get more intimate with exactly where the proper crown click is)."
"Those questions were put to rest through a combination of research online (apparently this watch model has a HUGE following among the dive-watch nerds -- and I intend that term NOT to be taken disparagingly)... The case (size-wise) is larger than my Orient Mako, and is actually more in-line with a Seiko SNZF I used to own and black is always in style... Some people complain that it's not as bright as a Seiko SKX007 or Orient Mako or Ray models, but then again - it's not a Seiko or Orient watch, and costs about 1/3 of the price of the Seiko and 1/2 the price of an Orient. It took a little getting-used to, and it's great because the screw-down action keeps me from messing with the time and trying to get it to be as "right" as possible. The crown-guards are also appropriately sized and keep the crown from snagging on anything, which I appreciate since I have worn this to work with long-sleeved shirts... I wore g-shock watches (which I have subsequently sold or passed on - digital is not my thing) and tried probably a half-dozen other styles before coming back to this simple design."
