Singing Machine SMM-205 Unidirectional Dynamic Microphone with 10 Ft. Cord

Very Quick

"I did go through the steps of fixing/changing the settings on the laptops to test the sound of the microphone; the only time there was any indication of sound going through the microphone was when I hit the microphone, and I had to hit it on the top with a lot of force."

"On the other hand, most computers would only have 1 mic port anyway, so if you want to sing with a partner you're better off getting a pair of cheap, identical, usb to mic adapters."

"I bought this as a second microphone for The Singing Machine that I bought my 5 year old granddaughter for her birthday."

"So when the wireless microphone that came with our original Singing Machine system seemed a bit spotty, I bought this one."

"I bought this microphone as an accessory to the Memorex Karaoke station so that both of the kids would have one to sing into."

"But for my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter it is "magic" because she can hear her voice nice and clear when she sings karaoke."

"Got this to go with the Memorex MKS-SS2 SingStand 2 Home Karaoke System I got my grandchildren for Christmas."

Quick

"(basically anything that the adaptor and the microphone w/out the adaptor could be plugged into), but the microphone didn't work at all. I did go through the steps of fixing/changing the settings on the laptops to test the sound of the microphone; the only time there was any indication of sound going through the microphone was when I hit the microphone, and I had to hit it on the top with a lot of force... Thankfully, service was good and, better yet, I did not have to return the microphone, which saved me from having to pay extra shipping fees."

"I decided to rig up a karaoke system using some karaoke software and an old pc, but of course i needed microphones... On the other hand, most computers would only have 1 mic port anyway, so if you want to sing with a partner you're better off getting a pair of cheap, identical, usb to mic adapters... So if you want to sing karaoke at home, buy a pair of these and if you're looking to hook them up to a PC don't forget 2 cheap usb sound adapters."

"I bought this as a second microphone for The Singing Machine that I bought my 5 year old granddaughter for her birthday. Now her younger sister can sing along, too. The sound is clear and the cord is long enough that they can dance around as they sing, just like the people on TV."

"So when the wireless microphone that came with our original Singing Machine system seemed a bit spotty, I bought this one. The original wired microphone had been just fine, so it would seem this one would be, too... For the price, I guess it's not that great an investment to undertake yearly, but what a pain."

"The best way to use the machine and get enough loudness out of the microphones is to turn down the music source (iPod, iPhone, iPad, etc... I bought this microphone as an accessory to the Memorex Karaoke station so that both of the kids would have one to sing into... I am not sure how well it will do over the longer term if it gets dropped a few times but works well to start."

"I bought the Ion karaoke machine, which comes with a wireless microphone that barely works... But for my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter it is "magic" because she can hear her voice nice and clear when she sings karaoke... 5 cord is also nice because she can walk around the room when she sings, just like with a wireless microphone."

"Got this to go with the Memorex MKS-SS2 SingStand 2 Home Karaoke System I got my grandchildren for Christmas... Just one microphone would have been a disaster. This one looks a little different from the other one so the kids can tell which is which."

Less Quick

"I was happy that the microphone arrived on time, and the packaging was fine (so this is where one extra star comes from)... I sing and play multiple instruments, so I wanted to make clearer recordings than my laptop itself would allow; I am also taking a class next school semester that requires voice recordings (just speaking). I plugged the microphone into 4 different laptops, a karaoke machine, a piano keyboard, amplifier, etc. (basically anything that the adaptor and the microphone w/out the adaptor could be plugged into), but the microphone didn't work at all. I did go through the steps of fixing/changing the settings on the laptops to test the sound of the microphone; the only time there was any indication of sound going through the microphone was when I hit the microphone, and I had to hit it on the top with a lot of force... The one extra star also comes from the refund that I got immediately after sending my complaint in about the product. Thankfully, service was good and, better yet, I did not have to return the microphone, which saved me from having to pay extra shipping fees."

"I decided to rig up a karaoke system using some karaoke software and an old pc, but of course i needed microphones. Most importantly, these look right- this is what you want to be holding when you are singing. They sound good enough for karaoke use, but only when i ran them through a USB mic adapter. When i was running them through a mic/line in port, the volume was very low and it was very hard to balance it with the music... On the other hand, most computers would only have 1 mic port anyway, so if you want to sing with a partner you're better off getting a pair of cheap, identical, usb to mic adapters... 5mm adapter so you can connect them to most computer equipment as it uses that TRS size (its native 1/4 inch or 6... So if you want to sing karaoke at home, buy a pair of these and if you're looking to hook them up to a PC don't forget 2 cheap usb sound adapters."

"No one in my family can really sing... So when the wireless microphone that came with our original Singing Machine system seemed a bit spotty, I bought this one. The original wired microphone had been just fine, so it would seem this one would be, too... It was okay at first, but it died a year later... It merely stopped working. For the price, I guess it's not that great an investment to undertake yearly, but what a pain. I won't purchase this now that I need to replace this one, too."

"Update 5-24-14: I wanted to add an additional update here, I found out that the system has enough microphone gain if the signal sources are configured properly. The best way to use the machine and get enough loudness out of the microphones is to turn down the music source (iPod, iPhone, iPad, etc... This makes the microphones louder relative to the music and it works perfectly. I changed to 5 stars for the review as well. I bought this microphone as an accessory to the Memorex Karaoke station so that both of the kids would have one to sing into. The build quality is stable and it sounds good, easy to use. I am not sure how well it will do over the longer term if it gets dropped a few times but works well to start."

"I bought the Ion karaoke machine, which comes with a wireless microphone that barely works. I bought this microphone, and it sounds so much better... Of course not, and it would not be realistic to expect it to be at this price point. But for my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter it is "magic" because she can hear her voice nice and clear when she sings karaoke... 5 cord is also nice because she can walk around the room when she sings, just like with a wireless microphone. The sound on this is more than acceptable, and I don't notice any distortion or crackling. Bottom line: If you are looking for a basic inexpensive microphone for a karaoke machine, this will do the trick nicely."
