Timex Men's T499059J Expedition Field Chronograph Watch

Very Quick

"It's tricky at first, because the large hand that looks like it would be for the second hand is actually for the timer."

"I'm attaching 3 pictures of it on my wrist, and you can see I changed the band to a waterproof black band (Mens Rubbertech (TM) Silicone Rubber Watchband Stainless Steel Deployment Buckle), which I think looks way better than the included leather band."

"With a watch like this where aesthetics were obviously a very important consideration, I would have preferred thinner hands w/o the hollow areas in the middle, such as the Timex T2N389 (which I just ordered and will review soon)."

"Timex isn't known for being the most upscale but I do trust it as an everyday and dependable watch company Here are some notes after owning it for a bit: + Looks matter completely Undoubtedly the most important thing about the watch other than function is the look."

"It still gives an epic blue glow that you'd want, and it can also be held down to automatically activate whenever you use the chronograph or adjust the watch!"

"The stop watch portion works, but who knows if I'll ever use it for anything more than a toy; this feature seems a nod to style more than a function one would want in this century."

"And this one doesn't have the extremely loud tick of other Timex watches I've owned."

Quick

"It's tricky at first, because the large hand that looks like it would be for the second hand is actually for the timer... I thought I might have to look at it longer than just a glance in order to read the time, but this hasn't been an issue either... The hour and minute hands are the only ones that glow - the chronograph hands and second hands to not glow."

"I'm attaching 3 pictures of it on my wrist, and you can see I changed the band to a waterproof black band (Mens Rubbertech (TM) Silicone Rubber Watchband Stainless Steel Deployment Buckle), which I think looks way better than the included leather band... This black band is great and will review separately, but felt I needed it as, a) I thought the brown leather band didn't fit the mostly black watch, and b) leather isn't great with water... Third, the stopwatch function (and the second hand) tick at 1-second intervals and do not sweep through a second like mechanical watches (this is basically the way most quartz watches work, with some exceptions)."

"With a watch like this where aesthetics were obviously a very important consideration, I would have preferred thinner hands w/o the hollow areas in the middle, such as the Timex T2N389 (which I just ordered and will review soon)... This is a bit perplexing to me because it seems the inset dials should be chrono functions while leaving the primary hands for regular time... I spent a bit more than $50 for this watch but it certainly looks and feels as though it's worth more."

"Timex isn't known for being the most upscale but I do trust it as an everyday and dependable watch company Here are some notes after owning it for a bit: + Looks matter completely Undoubtedly the most important thing about the watch other than function is the look... Press the middle button and it glows in the dark for you which seems gimmicky but it really is important sometimes There is one minor annoyance though - Second hand stopping When you press the top button (by accident perhaps) it stops the second hand but the time does still keep going. I noticed I kept pressing the top button by accident and it kept stopping the second hand which gave the impression that the watch was broken but it did not."

"The truglo is not strictly- speaking glow in the dark: it is actually a backlight which can be activated at any time (for whoever didn't know). It still gives an epic blue glow that you'd want, and it can also be held down to automatically activate whenever you use the chronograph or adjust the watch!... Even the small second- hand dial at 6:00 points directly at each individual second marker without any lag or inaccuracy that I can see."

"I have another Timex, which mostly has been a good watch too, but it is crazy loud... The stop watch portion works, but who knows if I'll ever use it for anything more than a toy; this feature seems a nod to style more than a function one would want in this century... No, but it looks and feels good, and it is way above the quality you would find on a watch band bought on a street corner."

"And this one doesn't have the extremely loud tick of other Timex watches I've owned. Chrono works well, and all hands line up correctly as long as you follow the calibration instructions in the manual. I've seen complaints on the leather band, but I have no complaints."

Less Quick

"That's one of my main reasons for staying with Timex after the whole Weekender debacle -I hated to lose the functionality of the indiglo... It's tricky at first, because the large hand that looks like it would be for the second hand is actually for the timer... When I ordered this watch I was worried that I'd have trouble reading it at a glance because the numbers don't go from 1-12. I thought I might have to look at it longer than just a glance in order to read the time, but this hasn't been an issue either... The hour and minute hands are the only ones that glow - the chronograph hands and second hands to not glow... I've had this watch just a day over two months and the leather band is wearing pretty well... Keep that in mind as you look at watches if you're not wild about getting them serviced like that."

"I'm attaching 3 pictures of it on my wrist, and you can see I changed the band to a waterproof black band (Mens Rubbertech (TM) Silicone Rubber Watchband Stainless Steel Deployment Buckle), which I think looks way better than the included leather band... I have only had this one day but after a shower with it there were no issues. This black band is great and will review separately, but felt I needed it as, a) I thought the brown leather band didn't fit the mostly black watch, and b) leather isn't great with water. One reviewer mentioned that the second hand stopped when the stopwatch function was used... Two clicks out and the minute hand will engage, allowing you to set the proper time... The indiglo works great, which is great because the luminous dials don't glow very long... Third, the stopwatch function (and the second hand) tick at 1-second intervals and do not sweep through a second like mechanical watches (this is basically the way most quartz watches work, with some exceptions)."

"The strap is leather (suede) and the color and thread use for the stitching work well with the watch... If you're like me and can't stand the sound of clocks or watches when you're trying to sleep, you'll be very happy with this watch... With a watch like this where aesthetics were obviously a very important consideration, I would have preferred thinner hands w/o the hollow areas in the middle, such as the Timex T2N389 (which I just ordered and will review soon). I also find it odd that the seconds are kept on the lower inset dial and not the primary second hand... This is a bit perplexing to me because it seems the inset dials should be chrono functions while leaving the primary hands for regular time... I spent a bit more than $50 for this watch but it certainly looks and feels as though it's worth more. If you're looking for an affordable, aesthetically pleasing watch that has both visual and physical weight."

"I have very dressy watches but it gets kind of tiresome and weary wearing flashier watches on a day to day basis... Timex isn't known for being the most upscale but I do trust it as an everyday and dependable watch company Here are some notes after owning it for a bit: + Looks matter completely Undoubtedly the most important thing about the watch other than function is the look... It allows me to sleep comfortable knowing that If I got my hand trapped under a rock and it crushed my hand, my watch can be replaced easily (eek)... The band doesn't 'catch' and get super stiff like most watches and undoing it is super easy. It's hard to explain in person but once you try to put and take off this watch you'll notice how easy it is...

It still gives an epic blue glow that you'd want, and it can also be held down to automatically activate whenever you use the chronograph or adjust the watch! On top of all this, the chronograph also has a 'split' function, allowing you to pause the s timer then continue again. This is awesome if you take a mid- bread during running or something and don't want to include it in your lap time... Even the small second- hand dial at 6:00 points directly at each individual second marker without any lag or inaccuracy that I can see... Both the functionality and appearance of this watch could suit adventuring, sports and casual dress events, although the brown tones of it make it perfect for an outdoors situation. All in all, this watch is packed with intelligent and well- engineered features which are as practical as they are accurate."

"I have another Timex, which mostly has been a good watch too, but it is crazy loud. I think I saw another reviewer comment that Timex has a reputation for loud ticking. So when it came to this item, I was reluctant to own another but a review said it was a silent... The stop watch portion works, but who knows if I'll ever use it for anything more than a toy; this feature seems a nod to style more than a function one would want in this century... No, but it looks and feels good, and it is way above the quality you would find on a watch band bought on a street corner... The size and weight are above average compared to watch styles from 20 years ago, but probably about in line with current trends... I got this on sale for about $45, and it is a good value in that range."

"I've read the case is made of brass, but it still feels solid, and is nicely finished... Timex may use cheaper movements, but they seem to keep good time ... And this one doesn't have the extremely loud tick of other Timex watches I've owned. Chrono works well, and all hands line up correctly as long as you follow the calibration instructions in the manual. I've seen complaints on the leather band, but I have no complaints. It's not stiff and already very comfortable out of the package... My only small complaint is the watch doesn't have a quick set date feature."
