"Given more time with the watch I'm sure I could have figured it out, but why not just keep it simple OR make a model of the same watch that had less options.""And if you asked how it performs during sleep, the fact that this is a big watch, so far I've had no problems at all [with it hitting me in the face in particular]."
"To address the point almost half the reviews being made about the lighting, the watch display is lit by a single "amber" colored LED (to save power and provide a low light profile, I imagine) which provides more than adequate lighting for the analog hands on the watch to be viewed in pitch black darkness."
"- I can't emphasize enough how nice this watch looks if paired with properly (black belt, black shoes, etc) In regards to functionality: - G-Shocks are known for being able to take a beating and I've put mine through a lot."
"While the backlight is pretty cool looking with the orange hue, you can't read anything other than the hands."
"If you are looking for an everyday watch, or are in need of a more rugged watch to match your lifestyle, than this watch is perfect !"
"Some people have stated in their reviews that they have problems with reading the digital displays in the dark but I haven't had any issues."

"You can't see the digital or analog in the dark... Given more time with the watch I'm sure I could have figured it out, but why not just keep it simple OR make a model of the same watch that had less options... Casio, please make this watch with the same lighting as my $20 one, make the hour and minute hand glow in the dark, louder alarm and keep it simple.""And if you asked how it performs during sleep, the fact that this is a big watch, so far I've had no problems at all [with it hitting me in the face in particular]... I recommend it to anyone, even people who do not like G-SHOCK, this watch would probably change their minds... You'd have to put a finger right above the glass [with the light on of course], leaving enough space to peep and see what the digital reading says."
"To address the point almost half the reviews being made about the lighting, the watch display is lit by a single "amber" colored LED (to save power and provide a low light profile, I imagine) which provides more than adequate lighting for the analog hands on the watch to be viewed in pitch black darkness... Another owner of this watch indicated that placing an finger across the watch face from 9 to 3 (across the horizontal horizon) allows for the illumination to better reflect back onto the digital display for easier reading... I can say with great confidence that this watch will more than likely be used very much for work, play and the military and hope that it serves me for a long time because it is a great looking watch."
"- It's a big watch, so if you have a small wrist or like watches that aren't heavy, this watch might not be for you. - I can't emphasize enough how nice this watch looks if paired with properly (black belt, black shoes, etc) In regards to functionality: - G-Shocks are known for being able to take a beating and I've put mine through a lot... Miscellaneous things: - I love the automatic analog hands that move when you set the time or switch time zones."
"This is great for anyone wanting something to take outdoors on the mountain bike trail and then out and about to have dinner in jeans and a polo... I will agree with all the other reviews that the backlight is useless for reading the digital screens... While the backlight is pretty cool looking with the orange hue, you can't read anything other than the hands."
"I tend to be really hard on watches, especially my " daily driver", and I've never had any issues with g-shocks short of needing to replace the batter every once in a while... Some people have stated in their reviews that they have problems with reading the digital displays in the dark but I haven't had any issues... To me, the other functions are just an extra convenience on the rare occasions I actually need them, and that usually isn't in the dark and I even work nights."

"And while I admit this is the coolest looking watch I have ever seen, it is not worth the price tag... The watch is simple to use and very easy to read in any light conditions... With my old Casio, the bright blue illumination is very easy to read in the dark, even with my glasses off... You can't see the digital or analog in the dark... Given more time with the watch I'm sure I could have figured it out, but why not just keep it simple OR make a model of the same watch that had less options. I mean, do you really need a DST when all you have to do is set the time?... Casio, please make this watch with the same lighting as my $20 one, make the hour and minute hand glow in the dark, louder alarm and keep it simple.""But for the crystal, you'd probably need to wash/wipe it like any other glass after getting wet. And if you asked how it performs during sleep, the fact that this is a big watch, so far I've had no problems at all [with it hitting me in the face in particular]... With all that's been said, it's a "put on and forget about it" type of watch for me... I recommend it to anyone, even people who do not like G-SHOCK, this watch would probably change their minds... But no big deal, check back in five minutes or an hour if you really want to see it. -Like a lot of people have said, in total darkness, the built in light is only capable of showing the hands. You'd have to put a finger right above the glass [with the light on of course], leaving enough space to peep and see what the digital reading says."
"There has been quite a few discussions on here regarding the quality of this watch and a line down the middle regarding the lighting of the watch's display and a very small portion of folks indicating that the time was never correct on the watch. To address the point almost half the reviews being made about the lighting, the watch display is lit by a single "amber" colored LED (to save power and provide a low light profile, I imagine) which provides more than adequate lighting for the analog hands on the watch to be viewed in pitch black darkness... Another owner of this watch indicated that placing an finger across the watch face from 9 to 3 (across the horizontal horizon) allows for the illumination to better reflect back onto the digital display for easier reading... This is not to say that the time on the digital display is what I would personally be using in low light conditions but it is definitely possible... Those that were unable to properly set this watch either did not focus on the various time zones that are clearly identified in the manual, or did not properly configure the Daylight Savings Time option for their time zone. I can say with great confidence that this watch will more than likely be used very much for work, play and the military and hope that it serves me for a long time because it is a great looking watch. Additionally, for those concerned about the size of the watch, it does have a good size in circumference and height off the wrist, but nothing out of the ordinary such as watches from Invicta dive watches."
"I bought this watch when it was on sale for around a $100, but after having it for a while, would still pay the $70 more for it's current price point... I'm not in the military, though I do actively participate in outdoor activities, so I was looking for a watch that could take the elements as well as look good... - It's a big watch, so if you have a small wrist or like watches that aren't heavy, this watch might not be for you. - I can't emphasize enough how nice this watch looks if paired with properly (black belt, black shoes, etc) In regards to functionality: - G-Shocks are known for being able to take a beating and I've put mine through a lot... When really dark out, it doesn't fully light up the face of the watch... Miscellaneous things: - I love the automatic analog hands that move when you set the time or switch time zones... Shock resistant, Waterproof to 200M (655 ft, a little more than 2 football fields), magnetic resistant, AND it has a battery life of about 2 years?"
"This is great for anyone wanting something to take outdoors on the mountain bike trail and then out and about to have dinner in jeans and a polo. The analog hands give it a classier feel than some of the other G-Shocks out there. It isn't small, so make sure you're ready for some bulk on your wrist. This makes it kind of tough to wear with long sleeves or a jacket, but I wasn't getting it to wear with stuff like that... I will agree with all the other reviews that the backlight is useless for reading the digital screens... While the backlight is pretty cool looking with the orange hue, you can't read anything other than the hands. If you are buying this to use the timer, stopwatch, etc."
"I tend to be really hard on watches, especially my " daily driver", and I've never had any issues with g-shocks short of needing to replace the batter every once in a while... Some people have stated in their reviews that they have problems with reading the digital displays in the dark but I haven't had any issues... It's a watch, it tells time and the analog hands stand out great on the dark back ground. To me, the other functions are just an extra convenience on the rare occasions I actually need them, and that usually isn't in the dark and I even work nights... I would imagine there are people that need those functions in the dark (military, law enforcement, campers?... If that's the case, you'll just end up with the watch in font of you nose with a hand cupped over it to reflect the light back on the digital displays. If that's a problem for you, there are many other options out there."
